Die, Epson, die!

I hate Epson printers. They work great for a month or two, then go to pot without reason. I bought an Epson photo printer years ago and was initially pleased with it. I was trying to get into digital photography more and I had my first decent digital camera (a 2 mp Finepix).

At first I was astounded by the quality and went on a printing rampage that lasted a few weeks. Then, as such things go there was a dry spell where I didn’t really have need to print much out. Then, maybe a month or two later when I finally did start things up again, something had changed. The images that came out of the printer were recognizable but the colors were other-worldly. People had purple or yellow faces, trees could come out in red or blue. You could make the colors a bit better by really screwing around with settings, but it might take 4 or 5 prints to get one that was passably realistic.

Day in the life

Yes, we have no kids so the cats have to deal with us. Trying some youtube foo. (Can’t get the embedded video to work in wordpress…)

YouTube Foo!

I’ll have another update for you real soon now.

Busy again

I’ve been pretty good about updating at least once a month, but in the about three years or so that I’ve maintained a blog along with the website, November was my first total miss.  I guess that’s not too bad, and honestly, I try to not toss too much crap in here that no one wants to read.

I probably should bring up, however, that yes, I was in a crummy mood for that last post.  Still, I’m probably not going to dedicate much time to continuing to evolve the HL7 utilities posted here.  Just some things I have to worry about in real life and over time some of the things I’m interested in doing with my spare time have changed as well.

Lastly – notice the “contact me” link to the right.  Eventually I’m going to add a form there which you can use to email me directly.  However, until then a clever person can use the information on that page to contact me if necessary.

Momentous

It’s been a busy and momentous few weeks (months, whatever) here at the nule household.  I don’t really want to go into details, but I am hoping things settle down soon.  I have updates to both the HL7 Comm and HL7 Browser utilities that I will be posting soon.  In particular the HL7 Comm utility has undergone some significant improvements and there’s room for more.

What I’m thinking about right now is if I want to continue to enhance HL7 Comm (there’s considerable room, particularly where loadable modules apply), work on the actual Integrate engine that HL7 Comm was always meant to be a predecessor to, or if I should kind of abandon the whole idea of open source health care integration all together and move onto a new set of projects.  Health care is a field I’d love to create cool projects for, but they are terribly unappreciative of such help, for the most part.  Talk about an industry that’s terrified of doing anything on its own.  Even though my utilities are quite popular among those that work in the field, it seems clear that they are unwilling to utilize the technology I provide, even when the cost savings are significant.  It’s a world where programmers are either non-existent or subordinated by the pointy-hair boss types that don’t want to hear about it unless microsoft is selling it to them

That’s too bad, but I’m starting to wonder why I should care?
