Home, Sweet Home

Most of the crap we own is now in our new house. It’s not nearly organized as I’d like it to be yet, but what can you expect while moving?

Also the DSL is still down, so I can’t really do too much updating of the website at the moment. I have taken a lot more pictures of the house, and want to write another update to the blog, but it’s such a pain over dialup.

Anyway, hopefully I’ll have more updates soon, and I’ll be announcing a housewarming party, due to happen in early June. There will be beer and food and hopefully lots of good friends.

Updating Software

I think I talked about having the software section of my site developed in Apache Forrest before. Well, I’m sick of it. The upgrade to version 0.6 broke it in ways I can’t begin to correct. I was not under the impression that Forrest was so unstable that point revisions would break upgrades, but apparently, that’s the case.

Anyway, I’m slowly but surely recoding that section of the site using WordPress and their new Pages interface. You can see the links to the right, but they are incomplete at the moment. Eventually I’ll need to toss up a pile of 302 pages in the current software section and I’ll make the redesign official. Until them, just ignore what you see there. 🙂

Drinking another beer

I have this sudden urge to update the blog despite the fact that I don’t really have anything to say. Boxes are starting to fill up around the house in anticipation of the move to the new place. My powerbook is back in my hands after spending an unfortunate few weeks in the shop due to an audio problem on the logic board. I’ve got a guinness in one hand and a bluetooth mouse in the other and life is decent if not good.

I’m doing a lot of web services development at work despite the fact that I’m learning as I’m going. In my own time I’ve got two open-source projects well under way, the HL7 Browser and HL7 Comm which are both used for integration in the healthcare field. They seem to be pretty popular – if you search google for hl7 utilities it’s the number one ranked hit. They’re both pretty polished, IMO, so I’m proud of them. I’ve also been programming a video game in my spare time. Not ready to divulge any details about it, but it’s been under development for years. I like coding it because it forces you to use many aspects of expertise in programming, from network code, to 3D code, to AI and everything inbetween.

Photos of new house

I’ve had these up on my gallery for a while, but forgot to link to them on the blog. So go here and look at them.

I’ll get some photos up of the inside once it’s furnished and we’re moved in.
