Well, I tried over the weekend, but got distracted with the noise from the website troubles. 0.8 is officially available now for testing. A few minor features will be added before the release version, but hopefully it will stay largely intact before then. Very little of the actually communication client code changed between 0.7 and 0.8, it was mostly feature additions and GUI cleanups, so if it worked for you before it should work now.
Feel free to try it out and let me know now how it works for you, especially if you experience bugs. One thing with the beta is that eventually I’ll remove the JNLP and you’ll be upgraded to the release version at that point. Here’s the link, I’ll be updating the application page shortly:
Install HL7 Comm 0.8 Beta (Java 1.4+)
Source and binary downloads likely won’t be available until 0.8 final is released.
Update: When I uploaded the beta I accidentally broke HL7 Anon. That is fixed again, sorry for any inconvenience. I’ll be redoing the JNLPs soon so that they don’t share common libraries, even if they are identical. This caused me to upload two libraries signed by different keys, which was my fault.

Something happened to the content of the website in the past few days where much of the archival content is missing. I have no clue how this could have happened, it seems the database was selectively pruned. That’s pretty upsetting, not because I can’t restore the content, but because it was either maliciously done or done through a horrible bug in the site software. Update: it’s a wordpress bug It’s an idiot not keeping his software up to date, see update 3 below. All the data’s still there, it’s just not displaying it for some reason. Update 2: Somehow the blog software appears to have corrupted the database. Everything *should* be working now (and I took a fresh backup :)). Update 3: Yeah, let this be a lesson to me. Someone corrupted my tables trying to exploit my (out of date) version of wordpress. Fortunately additional security measures prevented the damage from being any worse than it was. Remember, kids! Update your software!
Anyway, I’ll have things back in working order as soon as I can, sorry about any inconvenience. In the short term, here are the important install links to the software:
That HL7 Comm 0.8 Beta is the new public beta of that product. I came here to announce it’s availability when I discovered all these site problems. So, yay, there you go.

Hl7 Comm 0.8 is looking real good to me. The configuration stuff seems to work flawlessly so I’ve added some new features while I’m testing. First is the long-awaited manual ack/nack feature. It displays an incoming HL7 message and lets you select to ack it, nack it or basically reply with whatever you like. Another possible usage is to explore what happens if you don’t reply at all, or don’t reply with valid HL7.
I still want testers! I have another feature or two up my sleeve before 0.8 ships, so be the first to try it out.

I’m nearly done with the next release of HL7 Comm (0.8). I’d like some beta testers with the idea that we can kick the tires on the configuration GUI before I release it to the wild. What makes sense to me might not be ideal for everyone.
If you’re interested hit me up at the contact email in the link to the right and I’ll send you the JNLP URL to install it. Take a look at the image below to see the latest GUI in action.
Update
The configuration stuff seems to be working perfectly. I like it a lot more than the kludgy configuration interface for 0.7, so I hope all of you do as well. I still would like some testers before I unleash it and in the mean time I have a feature of two more I’d like to toss in.
