Well, the vast majority of the renovations at our new (old) house are complete, paving the way for a move. Actually, much of the kitchen and bathroom stuff are there, as well as the dining room set and most of our clothing. I haven’t had time to take kitchen after pics, but I am pleased with how it turned out. That part of the house actually is 100% done now and the bathroom is probably 98% (just need knobs on the cabinetry and to hook the drain to the sink. Then it’s just some trim work in the utility room.
It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s also be really satisfying to figure out that we could really do all this stuff on our own, and end up with a job that’s as good as just about anybody you’d hire. Can’t wait to show you all.
P.S. If any of you local people are around Saturday, we need a bit of help moving. Send me an email.

Somehow many of you are aware that we’re getting ready to move. We decided when our tenant moved out of our old house that we’d renovate it and move back there. Then we’ll sell the “new” house where we’ve been living the past two years and hope to break nearly even. It’s a rough housing market around here, but it’s a good house and we got a good price on it to begin with, so I think it’ll go OK.
Anyway, we’re doing much of the renovation ourselves, and because I think it’s going to turn out pretty well, I want to post some before and after shots here. I’m shooting to have the kitchen complete this week, so in preparation for that I present to you the “before” of the old, ugly-ass kitchen. Enjoy: http://nule.org/g2/v/RandomThings/KitchenBefore/
For anybody local, I’m hoping to have a house re-heating get together in late August or early September.

I have a rather detailed document that I wrote a few years ago as a kind of introduction into Java coding. It assumes only very basic programming knowledge, and essentially zero Java knowledge. Maybe it’ll be helpful as I’ve seen very few basic Java tutorials out there, and that’s a shame as it’s such a great language to learn with and it’s available for free for all! It’s toolset is equal to any language out there and it’s a great performer, especially at the enterprise level. So take a look at the tutorial link there to the right. I’ll be publishing chapters weekly.
